Zirconia

Fused Zirconia is produced in an electric arc furnace at temperatures in excess of 2700°C. Zirconia is very thermally stable to high temperatures (excellent thermal shock resistance), has low thermal conductivity, and is chemically inert. Zirconia is also not wetted by many metals and glasses and is therefore an excellent contact material in the existence of slags. Zirconia can also be combined with alumina to make a tough abrasive grain used in bonded and coated abrasives. Fused Zirconia is used in steel and glass contact refractories, investment casting as shell building material, as wear resistant coatings, thermal barrier coatings, and other applications that require high temperature, wear resistance, and frequent thermal cycling.

Durazon MCG

Durazon MCG is a dense, granular, electric arc fused monoclinic zirconia grain. The electric arc fused zirconia is poured from a state-of-the-art tilt furnace that insures a high degree of product uniformity. This zirconia is thermally stable to very high temperatures (2500°C), has low thermal conductivity, and is chemically inert.

Applications:

The physical and chemical characteristics of Durazon MCG makes it specially suited for applications such as refractories, investment casting, abrasives, wear resistant coatings, thermal barrier coatings, and more.

Durazon CSB

Durazon CSB are high temperature insulating hollow spheres that are thermal shock resistant and chemically very stable. These spheres are produced by a unique process of electric arc fusion of calcia-stabilized zirconia, which allows for the production of a uniform degree of stabilization. These highly stabilized (cubic form of zirconia) hollow spheres are thermal shock resistant to very high temperatures (2500°C). Additionally, calcia-stabilized zirconia is chemically stable in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres.

Applications:

The physical and chemical characteristics of Durazon CSB make these calcia-stabilized hollow spheres ideal for very high temperature applications that require frequent thermal cycling.

Durazon AGG

Durazon AGG is an additive grade granular zirconia (ZrO2) material containing alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) made by fusing zircon (ZrSiO4) with alumina.

Applications:

Durazon AGG is primarily intended as an additive to molten alumina silica refractories to increase the zirconia content.

Duramul ZR

Product Picture

Duramul ZR is a fused, high purity zirconia-mullite grain is produced by the electric furnace fusion of Bayer process alumina and zircon sand. During melting, the zircon and alumina react to yield a mixture of mullite and zirconia.

Applications:

DURAMUL ZR is used in specialty product applications where a high resistance to environmental corrosion and a low coefficient of thermal expansion are desirable properties. Applications include ceramic pressure casting tubes, refractory shapes requiring resistance to molten slag and molten glass, and many others applications.
